Guenter Scheffknecht has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, graduated from the Technical University of Vienna in 1988. He worked as an assistant at the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics at the Technical University of Vienna.

As from July 1988 he has been working for ALSTOM Power, Stuttgart in various functions. Since 1996, he was in charge for Process Engineering and Research & Development. 2003 he has been appointed Director of Process Engineering within the Utility Boiler Business of European Utility Boilers.

Since October 2004 he is Director of the Institute of Combustion and Power Plant Technology - IFK at the University Stuttgart.

Professor Scheffknecht is involved in training and consultancy activities in Europe and abroad. He is member of various national and international groups. He is also engaged in various research activities of the European Union (EU) as well as in German programs as coordinator of multi-country and/or multi-partner research programmes. Among these commitments Prof. Scheffknecht is active in training courses and industrial consultancy.

Beside his research and industrial work Prof. Scheffknecht gives lectures on firing and power plant technology and energy and environmental technology.
